St. Stephen
Lutheran Church
1838 - The Beginning - St. John's Lutheran Church becomes the mother church of Lutheranism in Syracuse.
1843 - St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church is organized.
1863 - Establishment of Zion Lutheran Church.
1892 - The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer was formed to provide the first English-speaking Lutheran church in the area.
1894 - Mount Tabor Lutheran Church came into being as supporters of an orphans home decided to form a religious body.
1945 - St. John's and St. Peter's Lutheran Church was the result of the union of St. John's and St. Peter's churches.
1956 - The merging of Redeemer and Mount Tabor created The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
1965 - The church of St. John's and St. Peter's united with Zion to form St. John's Lutheran Church.
1979 - St. Stephen Lutheran Church was born upon the consolidation of The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and St. John's Lutheran Church.
1988 - St. Stephen celebrates the 150th anniversary of the founding of St. John's Lutheran Church and of Lutheranism in Syracuse.
Present - St. Stephen continues the tradition of doing God's work in the Syracuse area.
